BLOG POST #2: V&R MAP and reflection of the questions

●  What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

Nowadays, students use lots of digital platforms to study, work, and social contact. For me, I most use Brightspace, ZOOM, Mattermost, YouTube, WeChat, LinkedIn, and Tik-Tok. Due to COVID-19, digital platforms become more and more important to us. I usually use Brightspace, ZOOM, and Mattermost to study. Watching YouTube and Tik-Tok is my way to entertaining. WeChat is my most used social tool. At the same time, as a student near graduation, Linkedln is helpful for me to find a job in my field of study.

●  What can you (as a student) consider to expand your professional learning network?

I think as a student, blog is a good way to expand the professional learning network. Every student can post their own ideas on the blog, read others’ ideas and communicate through comments. At the same time, it’s important to set up a good image on the digital platform. A good image will make others more willing to communicate.

●  In your network, how can you create a digital identity/reputation?

I think the most important thing in creating a digital identity is to stay close to life without giving away your privacy. We can post some daily photos, funny things in life on the digital platform. This will make others feel the authenticity of our digital identity, more willing to communicate with us, and it will also give us a digital reputation. However, it is also important for us to protect our privacy. We should avoid giving away important information such as our ID, mobile phone number and home address on digital platforms.

●  Consider what a local employer would do if you applied for a job with them – can they search the content, is it of benefit to the career path, does it hinder the opportunity of employment?

Every action we take on a digital platform leaves a trail. When we apply for a job, employers may search for us on digital platforms, such as Facebook. What we say on digital platforms affects how we are perceived by employers. So we have to be careful when building digital reputations on digital platforms. A good digital reputation can make us more competitive in the job market, while a bad digital reputation can cause us to miss out on valuable job opportunities.
